    Yes, I remember …
Yes, I remember Dewey Williams. It is possible, obviously, that players could cheat to get some extra scratch in their pockets. This is simply not the case in this game.

Read BostonKrab’s post below. The Wildcats were down by like 10 points with 5 minutes to go. They came storming back and Horne was one of the players doing damage. If he, or any other player had been keeping the game under 144.5 they would have not played the way they did at the end.

    It doesn’t matter …
It doesn’t matter if he is a smart guy, Valedictorian. In 1998 Northwestern got caught shaving points in a game. You need to be an absolute genius to get into that school. I’m sure there are a lot of stand up guys on that team like your friend.

    lol..How true. …
lol..How true. They might have been anyways, the U of A is all about the basketball team.

he did not know the …
he did not know the score. and why would they put the game in the hands of a freshman if it was fixed

  7. redbeakman on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    You’ve got to …
You’ve got to verbally tell someone not to attempt to tackle an opposing player when the game is tied with .8 seconds on the clock? The guys calling the game are as much of a joke as the UofA program.

    dumb
    dumb

    I bet the majority …
I bet the majority of the people calling for a fixed game on the O/U only watched this clip and didn’t even know Arizona was down by 14 in the second half. They only see the .5 pt difference. Get over it.

Instead of laying down after being down 14, Horne (one player in question for shaving) scored 8 points after that fact. Wouldn’t he think that would be cutting it pretty close with such high stakes on the line? And Fogg only played 6 minutes. I doubt anyone went to him to fix a game.

    Your right, he …
Your right, he should have known better. The coaching staff also should have yelled at all the players in the previous timeout: “WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FOUL!” This is obvious.

However, if you know the story of UofA basketball in the last 13 months, if you knew that Jammele only came back to UofA to play for Lute Olson, if you knew the background of the coaching change, the defections, the turmoil surrounding the team… my guess is you would not jump to the conclusion of point shaving.

If you know him so …
If you know him so well, learn to spell his name.

Not the mob, just a …
Not the mob, just a friend who may have made a lot of money on the game staying under. Doesn’t matter whether you were at the game or not. I knew in grade school that if the game is tied and you foul someone with one second left, this will not help you win the game. This is a guy smart enough to be in college. He should be smart enough to know a foul at this point will not help them win the game.

  13. cicmanaz on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    I know Jammele …
I know Jammele Horne, he is a stand up guy and I am just ed that people could jump to the conclusion that he is dirty.

He just made the STUPIDEST foul in the history of basketball. 20 years from now, he will STILL be known as the guy who fouled UAB, .8 on the clock, in a tied game.

He is a smart guy, Valedictorian of his HS, and yet he will be known for this idiotic play.

Isn’t that enough? Leave the poor dude alone and go find something constructive to do with your time.

    Might be the reason …
Might be the reason some of us recognized the game stayed under 144.5. It did make up for the other Vegas blunder this week, the “non Touchdown” by Pittsburgh. That one was from a game official though, instead of a player.

  15. cicmanaz on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    look, buddy, I was …
look, buddy, I was AT THE GAME! I saw exactly what happened.

To insinuate that Horne made a lunging grab of a jersey to keep the Vegas line under 144.5? Sure… I suppose that in some sick reality where the mob has Jamelle Horne’s grandmother in a basement with a pistol to her head… he might to something like that.

In this case, however, there is a new coaching staff, 5 freshmen on the roster, and the whole group of them blew it. They all are to blame, but none of them are dirty.

    u guys are are …
u guys are are ridiculuous. How many of u had a bet on this game. let alone who would bet on this game. It was a stupid foul and if any of u have ever played in a big game situation with the game on the line u dont think the same. Stupid foul thats it. Enough wit the point shaving BS

  17. hinsonmk on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    Anybody who thinks …
Anybody who thinks you can’t “fix” a game on the over/under also does not know what they are talking about.

  18. hinsonmk on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    I think he was …
I think he was wanting the game to stay under 144.5 . . . . which is what I was trying to explain to somebody named cicmanaz.

  19. hinsonmk on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    I hope this …
I hope this explains this good enough (even for you, cicmanaz). (Horne wanted the UNDER, so he fouled hoping for the score to stay UNDER).

  20. hinsonmk on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

No, it is YOU who …
No, it is YOU who is the idiot. If he had done anything but what he did, the game would have gone over the Vegas total. He ensured it would stay UNDER by the foul. Even if both free throws are made, the score would be 73-71, still UNDER. That was the purpose of the foul,to keep the game UNDER the total. That could be the only logical reason for the foul – to keep the game UNDER 144.5. In Vegas, if you play UNDER 144.5 and the game ends 73-71, you can win money, possibly enough to buy a Cadillac.

    Arizona is just …
Arizona is just scored of facing OU.

  22. Crede06 on November 22nd, 2008 4:18 pm

    There are money …
There are money lines, where you bet on no line just a winner… plus pushing the game to overtime can create a situation where Arizona covers. Plus I watched this game from the second half on and there were obvious situation where it looked like Arizona was attempting to keep the game close if not lose the game flat out. From bad passes to soft defense.
