Arizona Schools Focus on Literacy

Teaching a child to read is the foremost goal of any school. Some would say itâ??s the most important thing anyone will ever learn; this is most definitely true. Schools across the nation strive to achieve excellence in reading education, known as literacy to those in the biz. These institutes of learning want to turn out students who read and read well, and some are recognized for these efforts. Arizona Public Schools are among them.

Several different corporations exist who, in part, recognize and award Arizona Schools who have gone above and beyond when devising a program or curriculum to help students achieve literacy. Arizona Schools have worked hard to ensure that its students have the opportunity to learn to read, and to take that knowledge to another level.

But what is literacy? It is being literate – which is so much more than just being able to sound out words and read aloud slowly. Being literate is even more than being able to read aloud with clarity and adequate flow. Literacy encompasses all manner of skills that many of us, as adults, are unaware we even have. We do not remember learning them, we just know them! As the teachers of Arizona Schools know, achieving literacy is mastering the following list of skills:

* Understanding and identifying the main idea

* Grasping cause and effect

* The ability to pick out the details that support the main idea

* Mastery of basic grammar â?? nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns

* Knowing how to use punctuation correctly â?? periods, commas, question

marks, etcâ?¦

* Recognizing the beginning, middle, and end of a story or passage

* The ability to identify setting (time and place the story occurs) and plot

* Being able to differentiate between main and supporting characters

Arizona Schools students learn all these skills, and practice them on a daily basis. They work to become well-read â?? literate. Arizona Schools teachers follow proscribed curriculum and design lessons to help them achieve this goal. Many Arizona Schools have been recognized for their excellence in literacy education.

Fifteen Arizona Schools were recently awarded $1,000 cash prizes by the McDonald’s Readers Are Leaders Award program. This program, available to Arizona Schools provides funding for the books and reading materials for school libraries to enhance book collections and offer titles that will make the students of Arizona Schools want to drop everything and read. Applications were judged on creativity, ability to make good use of books, and solid strategy for long-term reading promotion activities.

As you can see, excellent literacy programs help students achieve the literacy they are working towards. And, for some Arizona Schools, that effort pays off; in cash and recognition for their admirable efforts.

The Process of Buying Arizona Real Estate

The first step when purchasing a home in Arizona is to get pre-qualified for a loan. This is an extremely simple process that only take one phone call to your lender If you do not have a lender, Arizona Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage can recommend a good lender. During your pre-qualification process, you find out how much your payments will be if you borrow â??Xâ? dollars. For example, If you want to buy a three hundred thousand dollar house, put down twenty thousand, and finance two hundred and eighty thousand, you will want to know what your payments will be if you finance this amount. This process determines what your price range will be when searching for a home.

The second step is to find a home you like. Once you find a home in your desired location, your Realtor will help you submit an offer to the seller. The seller can accept, reject, or counter offer. Depending on the sellers response will determine the next step. There is never a formal agreement between the parties until both parties have agreed on the terms and conditions of the contract. Once there is a formal agreement, escrow is opened.

The third step is to conduct inspections which your Realtor will help you with. You hired professional inspectors to make sure the home is in good standings. In every case, there is always something wrong with every house. Even if the home in brand spanking new built in 2007, there will be something wrong. Very rarely will you ever come across a perfect inspection with nothing wrong. Once you find out what is wrong with the house you ask the seller to fix X, Y, and Z. The buyer and the seller most come to terms again. It is a contract within a contract. Once the seller and buyer have agreed on what is to be fixed, the seller makes the repairs and the buyer conducts a final walk through at the end of escrow to make sure all repairs were made.

Step four is to work with your lender to make sure he has everything he or she needs to get your loan done such as pay stubs, W2â??s, and bank statements just to name a few items.

Step Five is to conduct a final walk through to make sure the home is in the condition it was in when the contract was first written.

The sixth step is to go to the title company to sign your final documents. Once the funds have been delivered from your lender, all monies are in order, and deed has been recorded in the buyers name, you can receive your keys and start moving in!

All Arizona Real Estate deals are like a fingerprint, no two are alike.

Top 5 Reasons To Move To Arizona

Are you looking for magnificent natural wonders? How about affordable housing? These are just two of the top five reasons to relocate to sunny Arizona.

Do you like sunny weather? Arizona can boast that it has, on average, 300 days (or more) of sunshine every year! Whether you believe it or not, the folks who reside in Arizona will be the first to tell you that the “dry heat” is much better than dealing with the “high humidity”. Ok, so you want to ski and snowboard? Just make a trip to Flagstaff during the winter and you can do both at an elevation of 12,000 feet.

Natural wonders in Arizona are many, but topping the list is the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Grand Canyon delivers breathtaking scenery, hiking, camping, and many other activities. Other popular natural wonders throughout the state of Arizona are Monument Valley, Saguaro National Park, the Colorado River and the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert, to name a few. There is even a mountain in the shape of a camel! If you are a resident of Arizona, vacation spots are “right in your own backyard”.

Arizona can say it is the fastest growing state right now. According to Tom Rex, associate director of the Center for Competitiveness and Prosperity Research at Arizona State University, “There are housing developments sprouting everywhere, whether they are on former farmland or in the desert.” Housing is so affordable in Arizona, there are Californians who are relocating to take advantage of the reasonably priced homes.

Due to the fact that there is a phenomenal housing boom, the economy is very strong. With all of the homes being built, there are plenty of jobs, and Arizona is also “a hotbed of in-home businesses.”

Another good reason to move to Arizona is to live in Phoenix, “The Valley of the Sun”. This city has constantly earned top marks for its resort amenities, for its business climate and for its educational institutions. It has long been established as an ideal retirement city due to sun-filled, 85 degree days, more than 190 golf courses, and numerous other recreational opportunities. Phoenix features several health-care facilities throughout the city. Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo are each only a 6-hour drive or 1-hour flight from Phoenix.

A beautiful climate year round, natural wonders in every direction, affordable housing, a growing and strong economy (great job opportunities), and an exciting city like Phoenix are all compelling reasons to consider moving to Arizona. I might even consider it myself!
