On October 6, 2006 roughly 3500 acres, or 0.02% of the Refuge, was closed to public access due to human safety concerns….The closed area extends north from the international border roughly ¾ of a mile. News Update: US Department of Justice to Sue Arizona Over Immigration Law

The US Department of Justice is planning to sue the state of Arizona over it’s recently enacted immigration laws. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton made a confirmatory statement earlier today, leaking for the first time that Washington plans to file suit: “President Obama has spoken out against the law becasue he thinks the federal governement should be determining immigration policy. And the justice department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit against the act.” There has been controversy over the legislation in Arizona, which allows police to question people based on appearance in regards to their immigration status. Although an ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that six out of ten Americans support the Arizona law, and 46 percent say states should control their own immigration laws
