She was the largest and most powerful warship ever built she was the IJN Yamato. April 7 1945: In a last ditch effort to stave off the inevitable, Yamato is sent on a one way mission, the result was a disaster, that would claim the lives of over 2475 of her crew in the final naval battle of World War II. The death of the Yamato wasn’t just the final nail in the coffin of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Yamato’s loss marked the end of an era, an end that began with the sinking of the USS Arizona.
